The counterweighted
take-up is an automatic type which meets the greatest number of overhead
conveyor take-up requirements. In this type, constant tension is applied
to the moveable frame by means of counterweights.
They provide a uniform
tension, their force can be adjusted, and longer take-up travel can be
accomplished as required. In the standard Anchor design, the
counterweight box is mounted above and is supported by the fixed frame
(see drawing). This results in a compact integral unit having cables and
sheaves located away from other conveyor components.
In some installation,
however, available head room does not permit use of the standard cable
arrangement. In such cases, the counterweight assembly is usually
mounted on a convenient building column and connected to the take-up
through suitably located cables and sheaves.
